We get this phone call very often from homeowners throughout Los Angeles. It’s quite hard to explain to a customer that this is not recommended. On a recent job in Malibu, we were hired to perform a leak detection on a pool and spa for the pre-determined fee. When arriving we noted that the pool had a waterfall system. When we explained this to the customer they said “The waterfall doesn’t need to be checked because we don’t run it”.  Does the customer realize that there are usually side suction lines that run these waterfalls? Homeowner’s don’t usually understand that performing a complete leak detection on everything upon the same visit would be to their benefit.

The typical customer that has a spa with a spillway to the swimming pool will not think that the spa is leaking because after the pool pump cycles, the water level in the pool drops, not the spa. For this reason we try our best to explain to all of our customers that is best for us to check everything including pumps, motors, filters, return lines, skimmer lines, main drain lines, light niches and conduits, backwash systems, skimmers and last but not least, the swimming pool structure itself.
